Frequently Asked Questions
- Who can take classes online?
- Any student in grades 3-12 can take classes online with CSK12.com. If you would like a particular course and you do not see it listed, please contact us and request the subject. We are continuously developing new content and courses to meet the needs of our students.
- How do I sign up?
- The registration process is simple. Just use the “Create Your Student Profile” button and follow the directions on the screen. Our application and payment process is secure.
- How do I know which classes I need?
- Once you have registered, a member of our academic advisory team will contact you to assist with your course selection. Each student’s schedule needs will vary, depending on courses already taken, and the school, State or other graduation requirements. In addition, students with special needs will need to make sure the courses selected meet all the needs of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Our goal is to work with each family to design a program of study to meet each student’s needs. Please use the graduation plan as a starting place for high school students.
- How do I know when to start each course, or how much work to do each day?
- Every course comes with a “Syllabus” and course guide, designed to help students work through the courses at their own pace. Each course is divided into 36 weekly units, each with 5 daily lessons, allowing students to spread the work throughout the traditional school year, or to work at an accelerated pace so that they can complete courses in a shorter period of time.
- What do I do if I need help? Can I contact a real teacher?
- Yes. While our courses are designed for students to be able to work through them independently, we know that every student will have areas of strength, and areas where they may need additional support and coaching. Our system is set up so that our students can email, telephone, or use a scheduler to book appointments with our teachers. In addition, we offer live tutorials, so that students can use the internet to log on to participate in the teachers’ demonstrations and discussion forums.
- Who grades the work I complete?
- Unlike many providers, we use experienced teachers. We do not hire “graders” to grade student work. We hold continuous training for our teachers to make sure we use the best practices for online learning. We make every effort to ensure that our assignments are directly related to desired learner outcomes, and that consistency is applied to the grading process by using rubrics and other tools for scoring.
- Will the credits transfer back to my regular school or to a college?
- As with every online provider, we ask you to check with your school or with the college of your choice to determine their policies regarding online courses. Most states and indeed, most schools today, accept online courses from accredited institutions. CSK12 is accredited by AdvancED (SACS/CASI), the same organization which accredits most major schools and colleges.
